5) Four Reasons to Migrate to 2k or XP
It’s high time you consider moving on with your computer and give it new life.
  1. Better Stability
You probably have encountered your fair share of unexplainable lockups and crashes. How many times have you rebooted today? Windows XP and 2000 are built on the NT kernel, designed to support the graphical-based user interface and multitasking. Except for the odd virus my XP has never crashed.
  2. Better Hardware Support
As of July 1, 2002, Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Quality Labs stopped testing all hardware devices for the Windows 98 SE operating system. This means that all new hardware will not be guarenteed to work on 98 and you may not be able to find a driver for 98. Therefore to take advantage of some of the new features of hardware devices, you need to be running Windows XP.
  3. Better Software Support
Most of this new software really requires Windows XP and modern hardware.
  4. No more technical support
Microsoft will stop offering mainstream technical support on June 20, 2003.
If you’re running Windows 98, and want to upgrade upgrade to XP, the first step will be to download the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor. When you run it, the Upgrade Advisor will scan your current system and let you know if it finds any incompatible hardware or software.

Don't throw out that old PC many churches and charities can use them. I have set up many a NT 4 server on an old 486. Old hardware and software cost them $50.oo instead of $5,000.oo.
